AOS: Advancing Together Toward a New Era in Oncology
President
Daiming Fan
China Anti-Cancer Association, China
It is my great honor and privilege to have been appointed as the president of Asian Oncology Society (AOS) at the Board Meeting on November 15th, 2024 in Xi’an, China. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Kazuhiro Yoshida for his outstanding leadership as the second AOS President (2022-2024). Under his guidance, AOS has achieved remarkable progress, such as expanding partnerships, strengthening organizational foundation, and enhancing academic collaboration. I also wish to thank all the past leaders and members for their dedication, which has brought AOS to where it stands today.
Established in 2019, AOS is the unification of Asian Clinical Oncology Society (ACOS) and Asian and Pacific Federation of Organizations for Cancer Research and Control (APFOCC). Since its inception, AOS has served as a vital platform for uniting oncology professionals across Asia. Through its mission, AOS has brought together 45 oncology societies from 13 countries, working collectively to address the unique challenges in cancer management across the region.
As we move forward, I will continue building on AOS’s previous objectives: promoting collaboration, enhancing facilities for cancer management, supporting technology transfer, expanding membership, and advancing academic standards in oncology across Asia. The society remains committed to ensure inclusivity by addressing disparities in cancer care and advocating for stronger regional cooperation.
At the same time, AOS will cultivate young oncology professionals through workshop and other training opportunities as we embark on the new chapter. Moreover, we aim to leverage the rapid progress in fields like integrative oncology and other cutting-edge technologies to improve collaborative research and clinical care. We will also focus on setting up and developing different committees to optimize the subdivision of the entire society, and creating a regional network dedicated to fostering dialogue, sharing expertise, and advancing oncology research and clinical practice.
Looking ahead, our efforts will prioritize cross-disciplinary collaboration, advancement of integrative approaches to cancer management, sustainable regional cooperation and academic exchange, and encouraging young oncologists to take leadership roles. By uniting the region's collective expertise, AOS will continue to drive progress in cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship, and work toward reducing the cancer burden for patients and their families.
Together, let us leverage our collective expertise to achieve transformative progress in oncology. I invite all members to join hands in this exciting journey, striving toward our shared vision of a cancer-free future for Asia and beyond.
